Good option for mortising large posts. I bought the optional mortise, hinge, lock & flute jig system for the CRB7 router base for mortising large (4×4) lumber. The unit worked well, once I figured out how balance this rig on the post. It is very side heavy with the mortise jig attached and will tilt unless supported on the bridge side. They provide an anti-tilt leg to help but you have to work on a flat surface. I needed to balance the bridge plate on a parallel 4×4 – voila! My DeWalt 618 router plunge base is difficult to find center lines, as well as starting and stopping points for cuts, but the reference marks on the mortise jig jaws make that a tad easier once you determine the offsets. I have tried making homemade jigs but they just don’t have the accuracy I’m looking for. The tool is well engineered although the micro adjusters are a little sloppy. The system is a tad bit expensive, but should pay off if I bought the CRB7 router base in combo with the optional mortise, hinge, lock & flute jig system for mortising large (4×4) lumber.
